About The Work
The Work of Byron Katie, known simply as “The Work” is a simple yet powerful process of inquiry that teaches you to identify and question thoughts that cause all the suffering in your life. It is a way to understand what’s hurting you, and to address the cause of your problems with clarity. The Work brings rapid clarity and insight into your relationships and the distress in your life.
People who do The Work as an ongoing practice report life-changing results –
- Alleviation of depression: Find resolution, and even happiness, in situations that were once debilitating.
- Decreased stress: Learn how to live with less anxiety or fear.
- Improved relationships: Experience deeper connection and intimacy with your partner, your parents, your children, your friends, and yourself.
- Reduced anger: Understand what makes you angry and resentful, and become less reactive, less often, with less intensity.
- Increased mental clarity: Live and work more intelligently and effectively, with integrity.
- More energy: Experience a new sense of ongoing vigor and well being.
- More peace: Discover how to become “a lover of what is.”
Witold Markiewicz – Facilitator of The Work
The advantage of The Work is that it can be done on your own since it consists only in asking four questions. Many of our patients discover The Work of Byron Katie though our DVD’s and books in our library or choose an individual session with our facilitator of The Work and continue doing The Work at home to support their spiritual growth.
A Polish native, Witold aka “Witek” has globe trotted from Alaska to Mexico, Europe and India. He began residence at the Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center in 2004, where he is a therapist specializing in The Work of Byron Katie, a Gerson Therapy home caregiver, and can be found working around the retreat center on various projects. He enjoys the retreat environment it is a place where he engages with likeminded people and it keeps him focused on his own health.
While in India, Witek studied with an Ayurvedic Doctor and learned how to give Ayurvedic treatments. He is passionate about non-dualism, teachings from Ramana Maharishi that offer a path to enlightenment and disillusion of ego. He also has a passion for carpentry, swimming in the ocean, canoeing, snorkeling, hiking, mountain biking – especially the trails in Volcano National Park.
Witek discovered The Work in 1998 and became part of the founding staff of The Work Center in Barstow California, where he lived and worked with Byron Katie. He did the work himself as part of his own profound healing and helped put the curriculum together for the school. The Work discovers the root cause of stress or suffering or emotional burden. Then, like a good disease cure, treats the root cause (not symptom) and supports the discovery of deep peace and freedom.

What Others Say
I learned about Breathwork, it was great, and have been slowly decreasing my meds. In two weeks, my Ativan dosage is lowered from 2 mg to NONE and I’m slowly lowering my SSRI dosage. I think my EFT sessions with Lilia were most beneficial, a lot came out in those. Although I only had a few sessions of The Work, I find that I am able to use those tools, of understanding my thoughts, often.
I received more affective psychotherapy treatment from Lilia in five sessions than going to my therapist back home for weekly sessions over a year and a half. My first Reichian Breathwork session with Dr. Baylac healed my deep grief about losing my father two years ago. I have felt peace about him ever since. I received great insight and perspective on anything that had been upsetting me over the past 15 years.
Breathwork and EFT were most beneficial for me. I had been to counselors before and had not made much progress. My issues were on the surface at the retreat and both techniques really pulled stuff out. They were like an emotional castor oil pack – drawing the impurities out of my soul.
Part of my therapy for the month that I was there was breathwork. I had emotions that Dr. Baylac helped me discover and then let go of. Without going into too much detail I had a less than favorable childhood with an abusive father. The gently supportive breathwork helped me open up my blocked emotions that I held in my throat and my stomach.
At Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat we discuss feelings, learn mindfulness, process the past, grief and pain and explore ways of coping with anxiety, depression and fear. Don’t let the past or future paralyze you. Live the life you deserve!
