Why do a retreat?
Part 2: Healing
Part 1: Personal Development – spiritual, emotional, mental, social
Retreats are a unique medical model for a healthier humanity, striving for happiness and peace.
Retreats provide a supportive environment for change to the sick and suffering
Retreats speed up the healing process from trauma and disease
Time is healing, retreats may reduce the amount of time needed to heal
Healing is the natural response of the body and soul to the loss of homeostasis
Healing is the innate natural process of returning to the lost internal state of homeostasis.
Healing is a natural quality of the life force tending to restore itself over time
Healing is the journey from being unwell to well-being, happiness and peacefulness
Healing is hardwired in the brain of all living things and it is a feature of the life force.
Spontaneous healing recorded in the bible as a miracle performed by Jesus, was meant to point
out to the goodness of God and to its existence. Most commonly today, healing is a beneficial
process that occurs over time rather than an instantaneous miraculous event. Loss of
homeostasis may come from trauma or from long term eroding poor habits. Healing from
trauma may take years living in discomfort. This, because trauma affects several areas of the
brain, altering their chemistry long term. A retreat can speed the recovery from trauma reversing the biochemical and psychological damage that occurred. Reserve your spot in the fall retreat.
Traumatic events disrupt homeostasis
Trauma can originate from a single event and be easily identified or from repeated events over
time and can be easily ignored
A single traumatic event like a car accident inflicting physical and emotional harm is more easily
acknowledged than the repeated daily nagging or passive-aggressive anger of a partner.
Trauma can be heart break or grief caused by the separation or the death of a loved one.
Trauma is an integral part of the experience of being alive. Recovering from trauma is part of
the learning experience of living. An aspect of the growth process of becoming an adult
consists in moving graciously from the protected and safe environment of childhood to the
challenging independence and aloneness of adulthood in a violent world.
Traumatic events affect physical emotional and mental layers of human beings causing a
temporary imbalance.
Bad habits anchored in society are hard to break
Homeostasis may be lost in a sudden physical or emotional trauma or it may be lost over time
from long term inadequate nutrition and self-destructive lifestyle habits, causing a chemical
imbalance. Eating processed foods, smoking, drinking alcohol excessively, lack of physical
activities and self-sabotaging are a few examples of behaviors leading to loss of homeostasis
over time. This loss of homeostasis causes a feeling of discomfort or pain or lack of pleasure
that will, in time, ring a wake-up call: change or die! In order to successfully reverse this path
leading to disease, it is easier to cut the ties with the environment and choose a positive
environment supporting healthy habits. Gathering with like-minded individuals who want to
turn their attention inward and make a change in their behavior will bolster each-other’s
intention and consolidate achievements.
Retreats remove the violent component of the world and strive to only express positive values:
safety, beauty and support. This positive environment supports the physical and emotional
process of healing and achieving well being
Retreat as cocoon
Retreats remove the obstacles to healing and speed up the recovery process.
Removing the physical sources of ailment makes it easier to heal because bad habits are not
continuously reinforced by triggers. These can be the triggers of an addictive behavior like
alcohol, or the triggers of suffering from grief like a place where we lived with a lost loved
one. Like a wounded animal retreats in a corner, curls into a ball and abstains from food or
water, in the same way our instincts guide us to recreate the womb until our trust is restored
and we are ready to face the world again.
Retreats feature non-competitive relationships
Retreats offer a focused environment on ‘ME” and replace competitive relationships by
cooperative and supportive ones
Everyone deserves the space to be listened to. A positive community providing supportive
feedback and sharing similar experiences trace an unobstructed path to introspection and self-
discovery
.
Retreats promote mindfulness and unlock the awareness of self-destructive patterns such as
lack of self-respect, or self- sabotage, or a poor self-esteem. These negative patterns lead to
behaviors that make us unhappy and unwell, but we keep repeating them by lack of
understanding that they are programmed in our brain and we do not know that they can be
deprogrammed.
Retreats offer the opportunity to free ourselves from blame, shame and guilt; all negative
judgments and feelings that victimize us and dissociate us, therefore harming us and weakening
our immune system.
Retreats build true inner strength while society promotes ego strength
Cultivating inner strength requires awareness of the inner self and acceptance of its
vulnerability. Ego strength has no root in real substance and is therefore fragile. Real strength
comes from self- knowledge, self-love and self-acceptance.
Retreats feature contact with nature
Nature is healing because nature is alive, nature is a larger entity than us, it
resembles us and it reflects a wider universe. The earth and human beings are all composed of
five elements, wood, fire, earth metal and water as described by Chinese medicine.
Walking among trees, getting lost in the infinity of the sky, dreaming with the moon, immersing
our soul in the vibrant colors of a sunset and dipping our body in the deep blue of the ocean,
gives us the opportunity to merge our consciousness into these 5 elements, revitalizing and
strengthening the vital force that rules our health
Whole food makes us whole, mend our body and our soul
We are meant to survive by consuming plants and animals that live around us. The cow builds
strong bones eating the ever-growing grass and humanity survived eating seeds, plants and
animals they could find foraging. Today, eating organic unprocessed foods high in nutrients and
vital energy is absolutely necessary for our wellness. Natural foods purify the body, restores
balance and realigns us with nature.
Retreats promote physical activity and give a jump start into fitness
Sedentarism increases the risk of depression, obesity, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes,
heart disease to name only a few. We were meant to walk in nature and reconnecting with our
ancestral roots make our body and mind feel well
The retreat model is a very effective medical model to prevent illness by addressing the original imbalances and harmonizing all layers of human beings. Don’t wait to have a look at your life and move to make changes to improve it. We all strive for happiness and wellness. It is within your reach!
