Our Addiction Philosophy & Healing Principles
Addiction Philosophy
“The problem is not in the substance. The problem is in the user.”
A Holistic Approach
Our approach includes sexual, emotional, mental, social and spiritual issues. You will examine all these aspects of your life in the privacy of your daily individual counseling sessions, during co-counseling with another patient or while journaling on your own. We provide in-depth sessions with Reichian Breathwork, body work like Emotional Freedom Technique that will lead you to life changing insights as well as spiritual counseling using The Work of Byron Katie. The end result will be feeling better, caring for oneself and having increased energy.
A Spiritual Approach
We believe and teach the general spiritual principals of truth, self-love and honesty. We create conditions favorable to finding inner peace. We believe in treating the body as a temple for the soul. We encourage introspection and the use of your own personal spiritual practice. We believe in the power of prayer. We believe that all addiction has the same root. We believe in treating the person who drinks and not the drinking problem.
A Positive Approach
We view the addictive illness as an opportunity for personal growth and transformation. We believe that the moment someone views themselves as an addict and makes a decision to act, they separate from their addictive self and step out into another part of themselves -the non addicted self or the free self. The addicted person may or may not know who is the non-addicted self. It may be the forgotten little girl who was not using drugs 20 years ago; it may be another part of the self who has maintained regular work and social life separated from the hidden addicted self; or one may not know or remember anything else but the world of addiction. However little is known about that new emerging person, our focus will be to strengthen it and give it shape and a voice.
- We avoid cross addiction and aim at a healthy lifestyle rather than just a rehabilitation from drugs.
- We believe in making you permanently free of all addiction.
- We believe that addicted individuals can learn how to detach from their desire.
- We believe that addiction is a state of mind that can be left behind when someone’s strongest desire is to become free.
- When you will have a taste of freedom, you will not stop looking for higher freedom. Seeking freedom will be your strongest drug ever.
“The search for freedom is the highest drug one can ever taste.”
Healing Principles
We believe that addiction is a treatable condition that can be healed and left behind forever. We do not believe that addiction is a chronic disease nor do we believe that relapse is necessarily a part of the recovery process.
The Healing Power Of Nature And The Innate Self-Healing Quality Of Human Nature
We believe in the healing power of nature and in the innate self-healing quality of human nature. It is not in our nature to be addicts and dependent on unhealthy substances. When the cause of addiction is removed, the body, the brain and the mind recover naturally. It takes just a few days without drugs and alcohol for the proper nutrition, hydration and rest to restore health and well-being.
Remove the Cause
Remove the cause means Quit taking avoidance of all substances such as coffee, tobacco, alcohol, white sugar, soft drinks, inhalants, legal and illegal drugs. This abstinence provides a frame work for the natural state of detoxification to occur. Slowly, and with the help of our natural program, normal brain function is restored and cravings and avoid withdrawal symptoms subside.
Treat the Whole Person
Treating the whole person means that we don’t try and reduce you to your drug problem. Instead:
- We address addiction as part of your whole life.
- We cleanse the body and the mind to support a successful recovery.
- We treat all preexisting mental disorders or physical illness associated with addiction.
- We address all sexual, social or family issues that may contribute to the addictive behavior.
- We treat biochemical deficiencies created by drug abuse.
Dr. Baylac is a board certified Naturopathic Physician and a psychotherapist capable of addressing all preexisting physical and psychological conditions contributing to the addictive state. Prior to the patient arrival we begin a medical and psychological assessment with their medical records and the information provided through a phone interview or a questionnaire. Issues underlying addictive behavior will be examined on a one to one basis.
Nutritional Detoxification
We believe that a nutritional detoxification is the basis for permanent holistic recovery. A nutritional detoxification treats neurological biochemical damage and nutritional deficiencies. This is our basis for a successful permanent treatment. We help you to be permanently free of all addiction.
- A physiological detox eliminates all metabolites from drugs, alcohol, coffee, and tobacco, and restores neurotransmitter damage in the brain and the nervous system.
- A psychological detox deals with the unresolved psychological issues that cause stress or lack of ability to resolve conflicts. We use a variety of modalities such as stress management sessions and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Education
- Help to put together a nutrition and exercise plan for the future.
- Learn the effects of chemicals on the brain and their health dangers.
- Encourage self-knowledge and awareness.
- Identify triggers.
- Learn Dr. Baylac’s Mindfulness Method to deal with cravings.
- Focus on creativity
Relapse Prevention
We believe in removing the cause dealing with the circumstances of addiction through education and psychotherapy rather than stopping the behavior with using will power alone. Our process involves detailed plans in regards to people and locations supporting addictive behaviors.

What Others Experienced
Perhaps most valuable was the attentive natural medical support; I feel all of the above could be wasted without it. Dr. Baylac studied my case thoroughly, ordered tests that revealed underlying issues that MD’s have overlooked for years, and tweaked my customized supplement routine and IV therapy support as needed. Though drug withdrawals and food cravings were nursed to minimal discomfort (massages, teas, baths & lots of love helped), my first few weeks of detox were rough with mood instability, psychadellic flashbacks, nightmares, and occasional vomiting. I was probably a tough customer to restore to sanity, but because of her intuitive nurturing and sincere passion for helping, I was able to open up and trust Dr. Baylac and her phenomenal team to guide me to serenity.
I stayed at the Retreat for 6 weeks and this time truly changed my life. I had surgery and became addicted to opiates. One thing led to another, and before I knew it seven years of my life went by on drugs. Methadone was my drug of choice and I had tried five ‘detoxes’ and two rehabs to kick this drug. Nothing seemed to work. I suffered hard at these traditional rehabs. But I was surrounded by negative people and bad food. At the Hawaii retreat it was almost the opposite. Yeah, I went through a rough detox but the food, saunas, enemas, hydrogen peroxide baths, massages and tons of other things made it bearable. I fully detoxed from methadone and it was not as painful as it had been in the past. I’m really grateful that I had the opportunity to come here.
